Super Snacks, Dips and Appetizers for the Big Game

0 Comments 02 February 2012

Super Bowl Sunday. The day when all the hard work and intense preparation pay off. The day when dreams become reality, when desire fosters greatness. Oh, and there’s also a pretty big football game.

In kitchens across America, cooks bring their culinary A-games to create finger-food masterpieces. Chips and pretzels abound. Dips of all sorts – guacamole, seven-layer, Dubliner Artichoke, French onion – create a veritable United Nations of flavor. Cookies and other confections adorned with team colors serve as edible banners, proclaiming party hosts’ allegiances. Make no mistake about it – this Sunday is the Super Bowl of snack foods. And if you’re hosting a party or contributing a dish to one, you’ll want to make sure it’s a touchdown!

With that in mind, we’ve put together a few recipes that are sure to score big this Super Bowl Sunday.

Since wings are king at a lot of Super Bowl parties, here’s a great little side that just happens to also be great with veggies, bread, even straight off the spoon (we won’t tell, don’t worry).

1 cup Kerrygold Cashel Blue cheese, crumbled
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 dash of Worcestershire sauce
1 jalapeno chile, diced
salt and pepper, to taste

Stir all ingredients together.
If dip is too thick, add more heavy cream to preference

If you’re looking for a great wing recipe, here’s a spicy twist on the traditional favorite from The Family Kitchen.

This is a great way to get the kids involved. Some simple cheese and sausage bites from Gimme Some Oven. (hint: these would be great with Red Leicester).

A delicious dessert in keeping with the football theme. Set these out and watch your guests tackle each other for the last one! This recipe from the Football Foodie is sure to impress, especially if you use Kerrygold Butter.
